Origin & Weave
Kanjivaram comes from Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu, traditionally woven in three separate parts (body, border, pallu) and joined together. Banarasi is woven as a single piece in Varanasi.
Visual Cues
Kanjivaram tends to be heavier with bold contrasting borders. Banarasi has finer, more intricate Mughal-inspired motifs throughout.
Which to Choose
For South Indian weddings and temple visits, Kanjivaram is iconic. For North Indian weddings, sangeets, and a more delicate look, Banarasi rules.
